Adidas Release Japan 1993 Home Reissue Jersey

Japan 1993 Home Reissue Jersey

Adidas has released the Japan Home Long Sleeve Jersey 1993, bringing back one of the most recognisable Japan football shirt designs from the early 1990s.

It revives the blue long-sleeve adidas style associated with the period around Japan’s 1992 Asian Cup success and the launch of the J.League.

The reissue features a bright blue base with a fold-over polo collar and a V-shaped front opening. Across the front, a large white diagonal graphic is combined with thin blue line detailing and red angular shapes, continuing onto the shoulders, sleeves and back. The rear of the shirt carries a matching diagonal pattern across the upper section, while the lower back remains largely plain blue.

The front includes the white adidas Trefoil logo on the right chest and a vintage-style Japan Football Association crest on the left chest. A small Japan flag detail appears on the sleeve.

For this particular model, you don't mention the VERY interesting history around the design, and , technically, Adidas have the year wrong... please, allow me...
The JFA had an agreement with three different manufacturers to supply the same-designed shirt over a three year period, alternating between three makers.
The makers were Puma, Adidas and Asics.
Over a period of six years we saw each of the three makers get two years...
This shown design came in in 1993, but that year it was Puma "in charge", Adidas was 1994, Asics 1995. (Note. In 1996 the design changed to the famous flame-sleeves design that many of us know from the World Cup of 1998. The makers supplied in the same order so 1996 - Puma, 1997 - Adidas, 1998 World Cup season - Asics).
Since this is an Adidas version of this design this shirt really should be tagged as 1994.
The current pricing of "throwback" shirts like this means that, in many cases, a collector can get the original version cheaper than a remake, it seems! (Though not necessarily in this one!).
