Puma, born of the Dassler split - Adi formed adidas, brother Rudi Puma - have a storied past, even beyond their beginnings, and, as this 1974 catalogue demonstrates, much of their finest work can be found on the feet of superstars.

Puma boots have quite the reputation. Diego Maradona notably swore by them, and his predecessor as GOAT - greatest of all time - Pele also endorsed the shoe.

Signature models having a yellow accent was fitting for the Brazilian, but the orange-embellished style worked too. However, a red and white “Hurricane” example - still with “cowhide” uppers - and the blue and yellow “Netzer Azur” style were quite something for the mid-seventies.

The orange cotton “training sweater” with black chest logo, Puma? In 1974? We get the Johan Cruyff reference. And who wouldn’t want that “Pele” track top too?

But, really, with Puma it’s always been the boots first and foremost. And those Netzer-Supers with the sky blue small-s swoosh? They’ll make plenty small-s swoon.
